The prime objective of all British Legion branches is to raise funds for servicemen and their families who have need for financial assistance. The members also manage the annual poppy appeal (The Earl Haig Fund). The Legion receive no grants and rely totally on public subscription.

4 Oct – Help for Heroes at Hawksworth Church
After the gale on Saturday, we were once again treated kindly by the weather on Sunday 4th October and had an encouraging number of customers – about 100 in all, 90% of whom came before 12.30 pm. The raffle was generously supported and the Teas dept. did steady business all the time.
We were very pleased to make £1,464.02
We were indebted to wonderful support from several people in Hawksworth, and most particularly Sarah and Steve Hadfield who made the church hall available and also did so much else to help us.
There are no qualifications to become a member – all may do so. We meet monthly on the second Tuesday of every month, usually at the Cranmer Inn, Aslockton 8pm. There follows a good social evening meeting old comrades and new friends to discuss current affairs et al. Occasionally talks are given on a variety of subjects (later this year “German Concentration Camps”), quizes, a Pie Pea and Pims evening and much more.
Membership costs £10 per annum and £1 per meeting to help to defray expenses.
We currently have about 30 members all of whom are active.
Please contact Peter Berry Tel 01949 850476 – all new members will be made most welcome.
