‘Le Rosbif’
Informal French Conversation Group
If you’re interested in practising your French, please come and join us at one of our Rosbif sessions. We started in September 2015, meeting regularly in our local pub, then, with participants increasingly coming from a variety of different places, we switched to meeting in other convenient locations (e.g. Bingham, Bottesford or Radcliffe). In Covid we switched to online chats, and now we alternate between the two formats.
What?
When we meet in person, you just turn up to the designated pub, buy yourself a drink, then join us for a chat. There is no other charge, and you’re free to come whenever you like!
As this is not a class, beginners might find it a bit challenging or boring (but are still very welcome to come for a drink!). Usually, people chat in pairs or small groups to discuss anything of mutual interest: a recent holiday, a French/Belgian film or TV series they’ve seen, or even the weather. Sometimes one of us brings an article or a quiz; each session is different!
NB: you don’t have to discuss France or anything French – the key thing is to communicate in French!
Who?
Our current group includes people who have lived/worked in France, or have taught French, while others may not have studied the language since school or might even be self-taught. When we meet online, we often have a native French speaker there as well.
When?
Currently we meet every four weeks on a Monday in person (usually from about 7.30pm-9.00pm), with an online session in between (via Zoom – from 8.00pm). Some prefer one format over the other, some come to either, as and when they’re free.
