Orston Showcases Local Talent
In November, Orston Village Hall put on its very own variety show, “Let Orston Entertain You”. The aim was to bring the community together by giving local talent, both young and old, the opportunity to perform in the village hall as part of a ‘variety’ entertainment show.
The eligibility requirements for performers were that they had to live in the village, or regularly attend the school or a club or organisation within Orston.
The embryo idea came from the village survey a few years ago. It just needed someone to take up the challenge and get it organised. This challenge was taken up by Bob Clarke and Paul Sharratt.
The organising started early in June to ensure as many people as possible were on board and had the opportunity to get involved. The response was fantastic.
The show featured pupils form Orston Primary School; Saturday Dance Class pupils; representatives of Orston Paris Folk Club; Orston Choir and individual Orstonites.
The show was masterfully linked together by Mr Stewart Davidson giving City Varieties’ “Good Old Days” style introductions to the performances.
In view of the number of performers taking part and amount of initial interest in the event, tickets had to be limited and the show was a complete sell-out. The £290 raised has been donated to Maggie’s Cancer Care Centre in Nottingham.
A big thank you goes to all those who gave their support.

I am pleased to announce that the Opera Dudes night (October 2014) was an amazing success! A big thank you to all our guests for supporting this event and helping to create such an awesome atmosphere. Also, a massive thank you to all those that helped to organise, setup or stayed behind to clear up. Your efforts and support are much appreciated.
There were lots of positive comments confirming that the Opera Dudes provided us with some excellent entertainment. “I never realised that opera could be so much fun!” Thanks again for coming, and passing on your appreciation.
